The United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran on 28 February 2026. One hundred days later the conflict has produced more than 7,000 deaths, widespread displacement, and severe economic disruption across the region. Iranian authorities have kept most government institutions functioning despite the loss of senior leaders and repeated strikes on military sites.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps continues to operate fast boats in the Strait of Hormuz, while many conventional naval vessels and aircraft have been destroyed. Daily life in Tehran has partially resumed. Shops have reopened with reduced foot traffic, and traffic flows again on many streets, though millions of jobs remain suspended after protests, bombardment, and two nationwide internet shutdowns.

Inflation reached nearly 84 percent year-on-year by the end of May, with food prices rising even faster. Vegetable oil prices increased 431 percent, eggs 342 percent, and imported rice 222 percent compared with the same month a year earlier, according to the Statistical Center of Iran.

U.S. Dollar on Sunday in Tehran’s open market, near record lows. 5 million points after a controlled reopening last month. Overnight exchanges of fire have continued for more than a week despite an interim ceasefire.

An agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for commercial traffic has not been reached. Keyhan newspaper published the editorial statement “America retreated because of missiles, not negotiations” on 7 June 2026. Iranian officials hosted Pakistan’s interior minister on Sunday for talks that also involved a Lebanese envoy, aiming to address issues related to Hezbollah.

Nuclear negotiations have shown no progress. Authorities have conducted near-daily executions of people arrested during the current conflict and earlier protests. Tens of thousands remain in custody, and parliament has held only limited sessions amid security concerns.

Power plants, steel and aluminum facilities, and other industrial sites suffered extensive damage. Many homes, hospitals, schools, and universities are either destroyed or heavily damaged. Internet access has been partially restored after the longest nationwide shutdown on record, though connections remain heavily restricted and authorities continue to block circumvention tools such as Starlink.

Armored vehicles and security checkpoints remain visible throughout Tehran at all hours, with main squares frequently closed for pro-government gatherings that feature banners supporting Hezbollah and other regional allies.
