11-Year-Old Boy Loses Hand in Florida Alligator Attack
Brodie Terry, 11, suffered an amputation after an eight-foot-seven-inch alligator attacked him while he released a fish at Nelson’s Fish Camp on June 27. The boy returned home to Pennsylvania after hospital release. A second fatal alligator attack occurred the next day in the state.

An 11-year-old Pennsylvania boy lost his hand after an alligator attacked him at Nelson’s Fish Camp in Marion County, Florida, on June 27, New York Post reported. Brodie Terry was holding a fish to release it back into the water when the eight-foot-seven-inch alligator clamped its teeth on his hand.
Brodie Terry’s father jumped into the water and attempted to pry the alligator’s mouth open, New York Post reported.
The alligator then performed a roll that severed the boy’s hand. Doctors tried to save the hand before amputating it. Brodie Terry was released from the hospital on Friday and returned to Pennsylvania, where he is recovering, New York Post reported.
Florida wildlife officials later killed the alligator involved in the attack. The day after the attack on Brodie Terry, Brittany Clark died after an alligator bit her arm and performed a death roll in the Econlockhatchee River at Little Big Econ State Forest, New York Post reported.
Clark was swimming in about three feet of water when attacked and died en route to the hospital from multiple blunt force injuries to the upper extremities.
Florida is home to approximately 1.3 million alligators and has recorded more than 450 attacks since 1948, of which just over 30 have been fatal, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
