12-Man Field Finalized for Monday’s Last-Chance Qualifier at Royal Birkdale
Danish golfer Marcus Helligkilde has withdrawn from Monday’s 12-man Last-Chance Qualifier at Royal Birkdale. Amateur Frazer Jones replaces him in the field that will decide the final spot in the 156-man championship.

The 12-man Last-Chance Qualifier field for the 154th Open Championship has been finalized ahead of Monday’s event at Royal Birkdale. His name does not appear on the updated field released by the R&A. Helligkilde fell one shot short of qualifying at Burnham & Berrow during Final Qualifying.
Monday’s 18-hole event at Royal Birkdale represented his final opportunity to reach the 156-man field. The 29-year-old underwent neck surgery in 2024 and missed more than 1.5 years of competition. He returned to the European Tour but missed the cut in his first event back.
Amateur Frazer Jones, 20, replaces Helligkilde and seeks a second consecutive Open appearance. The inaugural Last-Chance Qualifier will award the final place in the championship field. ” Aldrich Potgieter, the 2025 Rocket Classic champion, is the highest-ranked player in the field.
Matti Schmid, who has three prior Open appearances and finished T4 at the 2026 PGA Championship, is also entered. The lineup further includes DP World Tour players Adri Arnaus, Ángel Hidalgo, Joe Dean and Andrew Wilson, plus YouTube golf personality Wesley Bryan and amateurs Matt Maloney and Sam Easterbrook.
