espn.comSeventeen NFL teams held minicamps this week as part of the league's offseason workout program. The sessions follow a monthlong break and precede training camps scheduled to begin in late July. The Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers completed their mandatory minicamps during the first week of June. The San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams canceled their minicamps entirely.
Bears quarterback Caleb Williams said his comfort level in the offense has increased since last year. He attributed the change to familiarity with the system and the ability to build on prior work. "It's a hell of a lot more fun for me than it was last year just because it was -- I was saying it to [running backs coach Eric Studesville], 'Dude, I feel like I was drowning trying to breathe or stay alive and wait for a boat to come around last year,'" Williams said.
Defensive end Montez Sweat said he expects extensive live tackling periods and long drives during training camp. Head coach Ben Johnson said players must make deposits to achieve success in the league.
