A recording of a 1952 conversation between Air Force officials and scientists about unidentified flying objects may soon be released to the public, Rep. Eric Burlison (R-Mo.) told attendees at Disclosure Forum 2026. The congressman said the tape is now in the possession of MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory. He added that his push for its release has made public disclosure likely.
Background on the 1952 sightings The recording is described as documenting discussions about a series of UFO sightings reported over Washington, D.C., in July 1952. Witnesses, including pilots, reported objects in the sky, prompting public speculation at the time. Air Force officials later attributed the sightings to weather during a July press conference.
Statements from advocates Disclosure Foundation Executive Director Jordan Flowers told News Nation that the congressman has shifted from requests to demands for government records. Flowers said the tape may capture a previously unheard discussion of the 1952 events and that advocates view its potential release as a step toward greater transparency.
“The gloves are coming off, in terms of pushing for transparency, and knowing where these things are and pulling them out of the right structures,” Flowers said.
