GB NewsViral Footage Captures Parakeet's Underwater Journey A white-winged parakeet named Bebe captured the internet's attention after footage of his underwater expedition in the Bahamas amassed more than four million views on Instagram.
The six-year-old bird descended beneath the waves inside a bespoke miniature submarine on March 24 in tranquil harbour waters. The 15-minute journey took Bebe approximately three feet below the surface while Steven Lawyer snorkelled alongside. The miniature submarine, dubbed the Bebesphere, was crafted specifically for the voyage by Steven Lawyer.
It was fashioned from a plastic food container fitted with a paintball air tank, along with valves permitting air circulation throughout the chamber. Steven Lawyer incorporated an oxygen level gauge into the Bebesphere that would sound an alarm should readings fall dangerously low.
The Bebesphere underwent extensive testing in a sink at the Lawyer household prior to the Bahamas excursion, where Bebe displayed no indicators of anxiety whilst submerged.
The footage of Bebe's underwater journey was posted on Instagram on April 4.
