25-Year-Old Man Dies After Police Pursuit in Northern Rivers
The Guardian reported that a 25-year-old Queensland man died after a police pursuit that began on the Gold Coast and ended when his vehicle drove down an embankment south of Murwillumbah at about 2am Sunday. NSW police declared a critical incident.

A 25-year-old Queensland man died at the scene after officers attempted CPR. He was found unconscious at the wheel of a white Ford utility that had driven down an embankment south of Murwillumbah at about 2am on Sunday. NSW police declared a critical incident after the death. The vehicle had continued for about 20km after police used road spikes twice at South Murwillumbah.
The same man had allegedly evaded Queensland police while armed with a gun hours earlier. Members of the public reported an armed man on Robina Town Centre Drive at Robina on the Gold Coast shortly before midnight on Saturday. Queensland police located the stationary vehicle nearby at about 12:40am on Sunday.
Officers attempted to detain the driver, but he evaded them and headed eastbound toward the Gold Coast Highway.
At about 1am, Queensland officers notified NSW police that the vehicle was headed across the border. NSW officers located it shortly after at Banora Point, just south of Tweed Heads, and initiated a pursuit after the man failed to stop. Officers established a perimeter and deployed negotiators after the vehicle went down the embankment, but found the driver unconscious upon approach.
A firearm was seized from the vehicle. The Guardian reported the incident.
