Brisbane Airport Plans Two New Hotels and Expanded Services to Southeast Asia
Brisbane Airport has announced plans for two new hotels to address increasing demand ahead of the 2032 Olympics. The developments include one hotel near the international terminal and another at the Skygate area. Malaysia Airlines will increase flights from Kuala Lumpur to Brisbane starting in August.
Brisbane Airport is planning to add two new hotels as part of efforts to expand capacity on the ground and in the air. The projects aim to meet growing demand, particularly in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.
The first hotel will be located next to the Australian Federal Police building, near the international terminal's car park. This mid- to upper-level hotel will include a multi-level car park and will be the first to directly serve the international terminal. Proposals from hotel operators are due by May 15, with a selection process led by JLL Hotels and Hospitality.
The second hotel will be built on a car park adjacent to the existing Novotel at the Skygate area. This mid-level hotel will be near the DFO shopping center, the 16-hectare Lander’s Pocket entertainment hub, and Queensland’s only 24/7 Woolworths supermarket. Airport officials stated that the current three hotels at the airport are consistently at capacity, indicating demand for additional rooms.
Airport Demand and Olympics Preparation Long-term plans call for thousands of new hotel rooms in Brisbane ahead of the 2032 Olympics.
Airport officials noted that the airport can support up to five hotels to accommodate this growth. Hundreds of passengers transit through the airport each night, connecting to domestic flights the following day. Brisbane Airport connects to more domestic destinations than any other airport in Australia.
This connectivity provides year-round demand for hotel operators. The new hotels are expected to tap into this built-in traffic for sustained operations.
Expansion of Airline Services Malaysia Airlines plans to increase its services to Brisbane progressively.
Daily services will begin on October 25, using Airbus A330neo aircraft. The airline returned to Brisbane in November after nearly three years of absence.
Since resuming direct services, load factors have averaged close to 90 percent on the route. Airport officials indicated that this expansion strengthens the business case for the new hotels. The developments come as Brisbane Airport handles increasing passenger volumes.
The hotels and additional flights are positioned to support tourism and business travel growth. Further details on hotel operators will follow the proposal deadline.
