Date Set for Steven Lyons Extradition Hearing in Amsterdam

A court in Amsterdam has scheduled a hearing for 4 June to decide on the extradition of Steven Lyons, 46, to Spain. Lyons was arrested in Bali on 28 March and deported to the Netherlands last week. He was subject to an Interpol Red Notice at the time of his arrest.

The hearing will be held in public and will focus solely on the extradition bid from Spain. It will not examine the criminal case against Lyons. The court's ruling on the extradition will be released on 18 June.

Spanish police reported last week that they had dismantled a criminal drugs gang involving members of the Lyons family. The operation, named Operation Armorum, resulted in 14 arrests across four countries, with 20 additional individuals under investigation. Police in Turkey also located and froze assets linked to the network during the operation.

Operation Details The Civil Guard, one of Spain's national police agencies, conducted 18 raids as part of the investigation, primarily in the Costa del Sol and Barcelona areas.

Authorities seized electronic devices, cash, company documents, high-end watches, and cryptocurrency wallets. The probe, which lasted three years, involved collaboration with Police Scotland. The criminal network associated with the Lyons group operated in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

It included a money laundering system using shell companies and international transactions to handle millions of euros from drug trafficking. The network formed alliances with other criminal groups and operated in countries including Spain, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey.

Background on Lyons Lyons leads the Lyons group, which has been in a feud with the rival Daniel group for more than 20 years.

In 2006, he survived a shooting at a garage in Lambhill, north Glasgow, where his cousin was killed. Lyons later relocated to Spain and then to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, where the group has connections to the Kinahan crime group. Last May, Lyons' brother and an associate were shot dead in a beachfront bar in Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol.

A 44-year-old man from Liverpool has been accused by Spanish police in connection with the incident. He consented to extradition to Spain in October to face prosecution. In the days following the shooting, a Spanish National Police detective stated that the suspect was a member of the rival Daniel gang.

Police Scotland has indicated no evidence linking the murders to the ongoing gang feud or suggesting the incident was planned in Scotland. The extradition hearing in Amsterdam represents a key step in international efforts to address organized crime networks. If approved, Lyons would face proceedings in Spain related to the dismantled gang.
