49ers Consider Suspending Wide Receiver Brandon Aiyuk

The San Francisco 49ers have indicated that wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has already played his final game with the team. The team is not planning an immediate release. Officials have said they would prefer to receive a draft pick in exchange for the 2020 first-round selection.

Aiyuk has posted on social media naming the Washington Commanders as his preferred destination for the 2026 season. The two sides have not reached an agreement on a trade. Sports Illustrated writer Albert Breer stated that Aiyuk could force a quicker resolution by reporting to training camp.

Breer noted that the 49ers could either release Aiyuk upon his arrival or suspend him for conduct detrimental to the team.

2024 the 49ers suspended linebacker De'Vondre Campbell for three games after he declined to play in a contest. The same approach remains available for Aiyuk, though it could create a distraction during camp. Aiyuk has not appeared at spring practices. Some players view those sessions as less valuable than summer training.
