UK Tax Authorities Name Film Investor Lip Sync Productions for Unpaid Tax Bill

Lip Sync Productions, a British company that invests in film and TV projects, has been included on a list published by UK tax authorities for deliberate tax defaulters. 1 million ($19 million) tax bill accrued between 2019 and 2023. As a result, Lip Sync Productions has incurred a £7 million penalty.

The company is known for backing several film titles, including The Brutalist and Falling, which stars Viggo Mortensen. HMRC placed Lip Sync Productions at the top of its most recent list of such defaulters. There is no indication that third parties involved in the company's film projects were aware of the tax default.

Company Background and Operations Lip Sync Productions was founded in November 2006.

It has supported various film projects over the years, such as We Need to Talk About Kevin, Great Expectations, Nowhere Boy, and Made in Dagenham. The company operates as a sister entity to a post-production firm that ceased operations. In January, a voluntary liquidator was appointed for Lip Sync Productions.

The owner and director of the company did not respond to requests for comment. A co-founder of the company passed away the previous year following a cancer diagnosis.
