U.S. job-seekers have been interviewed by AI, according to a Greenhouse report cited by @FortuneMagazine. This figure marks a 13% increase from six months ago, as HR professionals turn to the technology to manage high volumes of applications in a competitive labor market.

Sharawn Tipton, chief people officer of Greenhouse, stated that recruiters deploy AI interviewers to filter the flood of applications. Thirty-eight percent of candidates have withdrawn from a hiring process because it included an AI interview, the Greenhouse report found. An additional 12% of candidates say they would drop out if required to complete an AI interview.

Tipton noted that recruiters are inundated and worried about being replaced, creating a trust gap on both sides, with technology outpacing change management and nobody explaining the changed process to candidates. Fifty-one percent of candidates who completed an AI interview were either ghosted entirely or are still waiting to hear back, according to the report.

Tipton stated that she talked to someone recently who received a rejection email with wording that made her feel like she was nothing.

She described the AI-enabled interviewing process as an arms race, not a hiring process, where job candidates feel they have to play the numbers game to be seen. Tipton advised employers to assess their hiring process, show that a person with judgment is reviewing AI assessments, and provide the option of a human interviewer.

She added that there is a lot of focus on AI efficiency and productivity, but not enough on who benefits from that and who does not, warning it could exacerbate gaps between talent coached on the tools and those without access.

@FortuneMagazine reported these details from the Greenhouse executive. In separate developments, entry-level jobs requiring AI skills have doubled over the past year, according to data cited by @FortuneMagazine from CNBC. Roles in government, health care, and education are seeing the sharpest growth in such entry-level positions.

U.S. jobless aid applications fell to 189,000 at the end of April, the lowest number in more than five decades, as reported by ABC News via @FortuneMagazine. S. audit partners and advisory workers after its voluntary retirement push fell short, according to the Wall Street Journal as noted in @FortuneMagazine.

OneUnited Bank launched a podcast series interviewing high-profile guests on reframing shameful experiences as success stories. More than 840,000 professionals die every year from health conditions linked to major psychosocial risks at work. Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan, stated that wrapping up a work meeting with high praise of its efficiency is a sign of a bad meeting.

@FortuneMagazine included this in its roundup of workplace headlines. Tipton emphasized that the cost of AI in hiring falls hardest on candidates, and poor experiences could backfire on employers as job-hunters share negative encounters with friends or on social media.
