Audio-Technica Launches ATV-SG1 and ATV-SG1LE Shotgun Microphones for Video Recording

Audio-Technica announced the launch of two new shotgun microphone models, the ATV-SG1 and ATV-SG1LE, designed for use with video cameras. These microphones address common audio challenges in video recording, where built-in camera microphones often produce muffled or distant sound due to the distance from the subject.

The models are compact and directional, focusing on sound from a specific direction while remaining sensitive to audio input.

The ATV-SG1 and ATV-SG1LE incorporate a newly designed 14mm large-diameter diaphragm to deliver natural sound quality. They are shorter than traditional shotgun microphones, making them suitable for mounting on DSLR cameras without obstructing the frame.

This design allows videographers to capture clear audio in scenarios where wireless or lavalier microphones are impractical, such as fast-moving scenes or those involving multiple people.

Key Features of the ATV-SG1 The ATV-SG1 features a 100mm acoustic tube for highly directional pickup, ideal for isolating a presenter's speech.

It includes an integrated shock mount to reduce handling noise from the camera. 5mm TRS output, which disables the camera's built-in microphone when attached. Power is provided by a built-in rechargeable battery that lasts up to 24 hours and charges through a USB-C port.

The device powers off automatically when the host camera is turned off. Additional controls include a low-cut filter to minimize low-frequency noises like wind or traffic, and a gain knob for stepless adjustment of recording levels. The ATV-SG1 supports a safety track recording, with the main audio on the left channel and a -6dB backup on the right channel, helping to prevent issues from sudden loud noises during single-take shoots.

It also has an external microphone input and an accessory shoe for mounting a wireless receiver, allowing mixed audio from a shotgun and lavalier setup. A headphone output with volume control enables zero-latency monitoring of the captured audio.
