Aaron Wise described his decision to step away from competitive golf in a video posted by the PGA Tour on X on July 11, 2026. “I just didn’t feel like myself. I didn’t even want to go have dinner with friends.
I was in a really, really bad place,” Wise said. Wise withdrew from the Masters before the 2023 tournament and played only four PGA Tour events that year. He appeared in one PGA Tour event in 2024 and 12 events across the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour in 2025, yardbarker.com reported.
The 29-year-old, born in South Africa, won the 2018 AT&T Byron Nelson in his 26th PGA Tour start. He reached a career-high world ranking of No. 33 and was named PGA Tour Rookie of the Year. Before his break he played 140 PGA Tour events, made 86 cuts, finished runner-up three times and recorded 12 top-10 finishes.
Wise’s 2026 season began slowly. The John Deere Classic marked his seventh PGA Tour start of the year and his first made cut. He tied for fourth at the Barracuda Championship and stood among the top five heading into the weekend at the ISCO Championship.
“Slowly kind of got that fire back,” Wise said in the same video.
