Ab DeMarco Jr. died June 21 at age 77, Newsweek reported. He played parts of 13 NHL seasons after signing as a free agent with the New York Rangers in June 1969. DeMarco appeared in 344 regular-season games and recorded 44 goals along with 80 assists.
He also played 25 playoff games, scoring one goal and adding two assists. His NHL teams included the Rangers from 1969 to 1973, the St. Louis Blues from 1972 to 1974, the Pittsburgh Penguins from 1973 to 1975, the Vancouver Canucks from 1975 to 1976, the Los Angeles Kings from 1975 to 1977, and the Boston Bruins in 1978.
He spent the 1978-79 season with the Edmonton Oilers in the World Hockey Association. DeMarco was born in Cleveland. His best NHL season came with Vancouver in 1974-75, when he set career highs of 61 games, 10 goals, 14 assists and 21 penalty minutes.
He was traded five times in the NHL. After retiring, DeMarco returned to North Bay, Ontario. He is survived by three daughters, two sisters, two brothers and five grandchildren.
