Abivax released additional data from the second part of its Phase 3 maintenance trial for obefazimod late Monday night. The Paris-based company reported that malignancies observed in the study occurred at rates consistent with expected background levels. Shares of Abivax rose approximately 25% overnight into Tuesday morning.
The stock had fallen about 44% on June 2 after initial trial results showed cancer cases among patients receiving the highest dose. The maintenance study tested remission rates in patients with ulcerative colitis over 44 weeks. Abivax said obefazimod produced strong efficacy, with more participants on the drug achieving a period of no symptoms compared with those on placebo.
Jefferies analysts described the update as supportive.
