usmagazine.comZac Efron has been living in Australia while construction proceeds on a planned residence in the Tweed Valley, roughly an hour inland from Byron Bay. The actor purchased the 128-hectare rainforest parcel in 2020. Australian environmental designer Joost Bakker is leading the project, which the designer has referred to as Futurecave. Planning approval was confirmed last month.
The residence is planned as a series of interconnected pods linked by walkways, totaling about 9,000 square feet. Features include a gym and vegetation-covered rooftops. Design plans call for hemp blocks in place of concrete and extensive planting intended to create habitat for insects and other species. Bakker has stated the goal is a self-sustaining, zero-waste structure.
Efron listed a Los Angeles property for sale earlier, and sources close to the actor have said he is considering a permanent move to Australia. He has kept a low profile during the construction period. Efron is also attached to a television project with distributor A24 and HBO. The series is described as a new adaptation of the novel that was the basis for the 1987 film Angel Heart.
