Cate Blanchett and other performers introduced rslmedia.org, a non-profit site where creators can set green, yellow or red consent levels for AI use of their face, voice or ideas. The tool was presented Tuesday at the European Parliament.
Euronewsorg, a non-profit platform that lets performers register consent levels for AI use of their likeness or ideas. Euronews reported that users verify their identity and choose one of three categories: green for permitted use, yellow for use under conditions such as payment, or red for prohibition.
Blanchett, a co-founder of the site with Nikki Hexum, Doug Leeds and Eckart Walther, presented the initiative Tuesday at the European Parliament.
The event coincided with discussion of the European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act, which was adopted in 2024. Bardem has previously rejected AI technology over its capacity to manipulate reality, Euronews reported. Blanchett said the platform supplies safeguards based on consent that can evolve with the technology.
“To find a path between unbridled enthusiasm and the dangers of AI, we need safeguards based on consent. Not to hold back technological progress – heaven forbid – but safeguards that can evolve at scale and at the same pace as the technology itself. Safeguards that protect our human rights,” she stated.
Film director Steven Soderbergh, whose credits include Ocean’s Eleven, Erin Brockovich and Presence, attended the session with Blanchett and MEP Eva Maydell. Soderbergh described the site as a persuasive mechanism rather than a restriction. “This is not a law, it’s not a restriction; it’s a persuasive mechanism to do the right thing in a simple, elegant way,” he said.
He added that AI has limits and that creators need direction. Some technology industry representatives at the event expressed concern that the project could weaken Europe’s technology sector compared with competitors in other countries, Euronews reported.
