Actresses film sequel to 1997 comedy in Los Angeles

Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino were photographed filming a sequel to the 1997 comedy Romy and Michele's High School Reunion in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The actresses are reprising their original roles as high-school friends Michele Weinberger and Romy White. The production is taking place nearly 30 years after the first film premiered.

Cast returns and expands Kudrow, 62, wore a pink cropped jacket, miniskirt, leggings, charm belt, sunglasses and white sneakers while carrying a purple bag. Sorvino, 58, appeared in a purple trench-coat dress with a rhinestone belt, purple sunglasses and a matching pink purse.

Alan Cumming, who played Sandy Fink in the original film, was also seen on set wearing a purple striped suit. Two additional new cast members, Keegan-Michael Key and Rob Huebel, filmed scenes with the group.

Production details 20th Century Studios announced earlier this month that the sequel had begun production. The original screenwriter, Robin Schiff, is writing the new script. The 1997 film followed the two main characters as they traveled from Los Angeles to Arizona for their 10-year high-school reunion and pretended to be successful.

Several other original cast members, including Janeane Garofalo, Camryn Manheim and Julia Campbell, are returning. New cast members Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton and Nathan Lee Graham have joined the Hulu project; their roles have not been disclosed.

A vehicle from the first film is also scheduled to appear in the sequel.
