Ineos Automotive Plans 30-35% US Sales Growth and Breakeven in 2026

Ineos Automotive, a subsidiary of the multinational conglomerate Ineos Group, produces off-road SUVs and pickups. The company has manufactured more than 35,000 vehicles since production began in 2022. It operates from a former Mercedes-Benz facility in France and sells vehicles in 50 markets worldwide, including North America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, China, and Australia.

The US represents the company's largest market, accounting for approximately 60% of its sales. Ineos Automotive plans to grow US sales by 30% to 35% year over year in 2026. This growth follows challenges from supply chain disruptions and tariffs in the previous year.

The Grenadier, priced at $71,000, runs on gas and diesel power. CEO Lynn Calder stated that this sets the company up for a strong start to the year.

Calder said the company has invested roughly $2 billion since its formation in 2017. This amount covers the plant, production, and retailer network. The company aims for annual sales of 200,000 to 250,000 units by the early 2030s.

Calder indicated that achieving this would involve production at the current French facility and potentially adding a US factory. She noted that limited assembly in the US could begin in coming years to address tariffs, including the 25% chicken tax on imported light trucks enacted in 1964.

Background and Leadership Ineos Automotive was founded by Sir James Ratcliffe, who serves as the founder of Ineos Group.

Ratcliffe, a UK chemical industry executive and minority owner of a prominent soccer club, conceived the Grenadier vehicle in 2017. The name derives from a London pub where the idea originated. Calder, who leads the company after a career in Ineos' petrochemicals and energy sectors, emphasized efficient operations.

Chief Commercial Officer Mike Whittington described the company's approach as building steadily as a startup. Ineos Group ranks among the world's largest chemical producers.
