The Trump administration completed a two-week search for a new U.S. Border Patrol chief on Thursday. Three sources familiar with the process told the Washington Examiner that a final selection has been made. The appointee is a 26-year Border Patrol agent who currently serves as chief patrol agent of the northwestern region based in Blaine, Washington.

The agent previously worked in Yuma, Arizona, and San Diego, at agency headquarters in Washington, and as assistant attaché for U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Canada.

CBP leadership reviewed current and former regional chiefs from the agency's 20 sectors along the Canadian, Mexican, and southeastern borders. Three sources said the search emphasized integrity, work ethic, focus on the workforce, and experience. The role requires a candidate in the Senior Executive Service.

Officials stated that the position is not a political appointment and does not require Senate confirmation.

The previous chief retired this month after a Washington Examiner investigation into sex tourism allegations. The deputy chief also retired this week, leaving the agency to fill both positions. " A former Border Patrol chief sent a text message stating, "I've worked with him for many years, and I know him to be a consummate professional who cares about the people.

" The Department of Homeland Security said on Friday morning that it had no decision to announce on the next Border Patrol chief.
