The Agavos Awards released its 2026 results on May 29. Two agave spirits received the top score of 96 points out of 100. Lost Lore Tequila Valley Blanco earned the highest tequila score. The spirit is produced in Arandas, Jalisco, and carries vegetal, mineral, and earthy notes with cooked agave and citrus.
The official tasting notes describe the blanco as opening with earthy aromas layered with cooked agave, minerals, citrus, pepper, herbs, butter, and a touch of funk. On the palate it shows rich agave, briny minerality, herbs, mint, butter, pepper, and citrus, finishing with earthy spice, salinity, and lingering buttery notes.
The "Best In Show" mezcal also scored 96 points. Aguerrido "Cupreata" Vicencio y Gabina Capón 2 Años is produced in Guerrero and is described as offering aromas of caramel apple, wildflowers, and spices with a robust, creamy mouthfeel and a woody, mineral finish.
The Agavos Awards were established in early 2025 by Grover and Scarlet Sanschagrin, founders of Agave Matchmaker. Judges include bartenders, suppliers, journalists, authors, and distributors who conduct blind tastings of entries across tequila, mezcal, bacanora, and raicilla.
U.S. revenue. Lost Lore Tequila Valley Blanco is priced around $75 per bottle, while the winning mezcal retails for about $120.
