The movie was made on a $2,000 budget over three months. It dramatizes events from January of this year involving five Iranians who meet in a Tehran alley before being executed, witnessed by a 10-year-old boy with cerebral palsy. The story draws from pictures, journalistic reporting, and eyewitness accounts.
The directors and producers were born in Iran and left the country in 2009. They stated that the project was not initially conceived as a technology demonstration and that traditional production resources were unavailable. A director’s statement explained that the AI pipeline enabled creation of a memorial film for events behind a wall the filmmakers could not cross.
The same statement noted a preference for working with a crew and actors if those options had been accessible.
The 2026 Tribeca Film Festival runs from June 3 to 14 in New York City. The co-founder of the festival said the selection reflects the organization’s interest in artists exploring new creative frontiers and that the film provides an intimate perspective on events many have not been able to see.
The production studio stated that the filmmakers understand sensitivities within the movie industry regarding AI tools and expressed concern about implications for livelihoods while noting that new types of jobs may emerge.
