AIPAC Funds PACs in Illinois and Pennsylvania Primaries
Public records show AIPAC-linked PACs spent millions in recent U.S. House primaries. The spending occurred through multiple intermediary groups whose donors were disclosed after the elections.
The advertisement aired in mid-March and featured a narrator praising Amiwala for supporting economic justice. Amiwala disavowed the ad after it ran.
Commission filings indicate the Chicago Progressive Partnership received its sole contribution from Elect Chicago Women. Elect Chicago Women had received more than $4 million from United Democracy Project, the election arm of AIPAC, and $1 million from investor Blair Frank. AIPAC also contributed $1.3 million to another PAC called Affordable Chicago Now.
AIPAC transferred $1 million to the 314 Action Fund in the previous election cycle. Progressive state legislator Chris Rabb won that primary on Tuesday after criticizing Israel’s actions in Gaza.
Donor Disclosure Rules A 2010 U.S.
Supreme Court ruling permits unlimited spending by corporations and advocacy groups in elections when they do not coordinate directly with candidates. PACs are not required to disclose all donors until after elections conclude. Usamah Andrabi, a spokesperson for Justice Democrats, said candidates should be asked whether they support an arms embargo against Israel and whether they will describe events in Gaza as genocide.
