Global airline executives will meet in Rio de Janeiro this weekend to address rising jet fuel costs and route changes triggered by the Iran war. The June 6-8 gathering is the industry's largest annual summit and will bring together hundreds of top executives from airlines, manufacturers, suppliers and financiers.

The International Air Transport Association represents more than 370 airlines that account for some 85% of global air traffic.

Before the Iran war began, the sector had projected record profits of $41 billion for the year. The meeting opens three days after publication of the June 4, 2026 Japan Times report by Rajesh Kumar Singh. Carriers now face higher operating expenses, longer flight paths and pressure to adjust fares as they respond to the conflict's effects on fuel supply and pricing.
