Ticketing errors, bag switching, and security issues caused 18 percent of delays. Failure to load produced 16 percent, while customs, weather, space or weight restrictions, and airports contributed 11 percent. Loading or offloading errors made up 8 percent, and tagging errors along with arrival station mishandling each caused 4 percent.
A total of 24 million bags were mishandled worldwide in 2025, at a rate of 4.9 bags per 1,000 passengers.
