Aiyuk Says Rift With 49ers Is Permanent and Plans to Play for Commanders if Released
Brandon Aiyuk released a 3½-minute YouTube video on June 27 stating his former agent influenced his dispute with the San Francisco 49ers. He also said general manager John Lynch visited his home and that he will not return to team facilities except on October 19.

Brandon Aiyuk posted a 3½-minute YouTube video on June 27 in which he blamed his former agent for problems with the San Francisco 49ers and said general manager John Lynch had recently visited his house. Aiyuk stated that his relationship with the team will never be repaired and that he will never enter the 49ers building again except on October 19, when the team hosts the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football.
He held up a football bearing a Commanders logo during the video.
Aiyuk had posted an Instagram video on June 24 saying he would sign with the Commanders the next day if the 49ers released him. In an Instagram story on June 26 he said he fired his former agent, Ryan Williams, in November. Williams remains listed as Aiyuk's agent in the NFLPA directory.
Aiyuk claimed in the YouTube video that Lynch came to his home in part to apologize for actions by coach Kyle Shanahan and that the situation had not been safe for him or his wife. The 49ers signed Aiyuk to a four-year, $120 million contract extension in August 2024.
The team voided the remaining guaranteed money in July 2025 after he missed rehab sessions for a torn ACL, MCL and meniscus in his right knee.
The 49ers placed him on the reserve/left team list in December 2025 after he stopped reporting to the facility. San Francisco veterans are scheduled to report to training camp on July 25.
