Alaska Sen. Dan S. Sullivan and NRSC Seek to Remove Republican Challenger Dan J. Sullivan Over Near-Identical Name Filed Days Before Deadline

Alaska Sen. Dan S. Sullivan and the National Republican Senatorial Committee are pressing state officials to remove Dan J. Sullivan from the August primary ballot. The two candidates share the same first and last name; the only distinction on the ballot would be their middle initials.

Sen. Dan S. Sullivan’s declaration of candidacy was stamped by the Alaska Division of Elections on May 29, three days before the filing deadline. The senator said the timing and similarity of names were designed to confuse voters and benefit former Rep.

Mary Peltola. “His whole purpose of running is to confuse Alaskans, to make them think that somehow he’s me, so they could rig the vote in favor of Mary Peltola,” Sen. Dan S. Sullivan said. Dan J. U.S. Forest Service and as an elementary school teacher.

He told the Petersburg Pilot he had no contact with Peltola before entering the race and would not know whom to contact. FEC filings show a Daniel or Dan Sullivan in Petersburg donated $650 to ActBlue in recent years, including $130 earmarked for Peltola’s 2022 and 2024 House campaigns.

No contributions from that individual to Republican campaigns appear in the records. Dan J. Sullivan described himself as a pragmatic Republican centrist and said his candidacy was motivated by Sen. Dan S.

8 billion anti-weaponization fund and proposals to place the president’s image on a $250 bill. Metadata from Dan J. Sullivan’s campaign announcement document links the file to consultant Amber Lee, who has publicly supported Peltola.

Dan J. Sullivan told the Petersburg Pilot he found Lee by searching online for political consultants. The National Republican Senatorial Committee sent a letter to Alaska’s lieutenant governor and elections chief requesting removal of Dan J. Sen. Dan S.
