Each case holds nine 20-ounce plastic tubs packaged inside paperboard sleeves. BEF Foods Inc. initiated the recall on March 23. The FDA classified the action as a Class II recall on June 10. A Class II recall covers products whose use or exposure may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or where the chance of serious adverse health consequences is remote, the FDA stated.
Customers are urged not to eat the affected macaroni and cheese and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Soy lecithin is a soy-derived additive used to combine ingredients such as oil and water. It appears in foods including salad dressing, egg yolks, soybeans, wheat germ, peanuts and liver, according to the University of Rochester Medical Center.
