Cora pledged the amount in February if any Red Sox player reached the mark. He was fired as manager in April but confirmed the donation Monday via text after Contreras connected Sunday night in Anaheim.
Cora guided the Red Sox to a World Series title in 2018. He stated in the text, "Happy that it happened. Honestly, that was an easy pledge. I trust my players. " Forbes noted that Cora remains a candidate for other managerial openings, including with the Philadelphia Phillies, who fired Rob Thomson on April 28 and later hired Don Mattingly after Cora declined their offer.
