Alexa Demie said she has no plans to retire after the third season of Euphoria. The 35-year-old actor, who has played Maddy Perez since the HBO series premiered in 2019, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Sunday. Demie addressed speculation that began after a clip from a 2020 podcast resurfaced in which she questioned whether there was space for Latina actors in Hollywood.

” she said. “People really take the authority out of your hands. What happened to my ability to choose? ” @Independent reported that theories about Demie stepping away were also fueled by her limited number of roles compared with some Euphoria co-stars.

She has 15 acting credits listed on IMDb. Demie told The Hollywood Reporter that her schedule reflects selectivity rather than reduced ambition. “There are goals, and things that I want, but I’m choosing to keep that private,” she said.

She previously starred in the 2018 film Mid90s and the 2019 film Waves, both distributed by A24. She described earlier difficulties finding roles that sought actors with Hispanic backgrounds. “I was sick of going into those rooms, and this was during that time when you’re young and every few months you’re just like, ‘I’m quitting, I’m quitting,’” Demie said.

“But knowing me, I never would have quit. ’” Demie said her part in Euphoria was the first role that genuinely excited her and helped her become less reserved. “If I didn’t have that experience, I’d be hiding up there like Enya,” she said, referring to the Irish singer.
