Alexander Zverev Defeats Jiri Lehecka in Suspended Match to Reach Wimbledon Quarterfinals

Alexander Zverev reached his first Wimbledon quarterfinal on Tuesday by defeating Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(6) in a round-of-16 match on Centre Court. The contest began at 8:41 p.m. local time Monday and was halted at 10:55 p.m.

By tournament referee Denise Parnell ahead of the 11 p.m. curfew, with Zverev leading 6-4, 7-5, 3-3. Lehecka won the third set in eight minutes after play resumed Tuesday. Zverev then took the fourth-set tiebreak 7-6(6) and converted his third match point to finish the match.

Zverev entered the round of 16 with an 0-3 record at Wimbledon but holds a 17-4 mark in the same round at the other three majors. Zverev has won five of the six tiebreaks he has played at Wimbledon 2026.

He will face sixth-seeded Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. Fritz leads their head-to-head series 10-5 and has won the last seven meetings. Zverev reached the semifinals in Melbourne and won the French Open for his first major title before Wimbledon.

He is the first German man to reach the quarterfinals or better in each of the season's first three Grand Slam events since Boris Becker in 1991.
