Alfredsson Joins Maple Leafs Coaching Staff After Senators Tenure

Daniel Alfredsson will join the Maple Leafs as an associate coach, the team announced Tuesday. Alfredsson, 53, spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach with the Ottawa Senators after a Hall of Fame playing career spent mostly with that club. The Swedish winger captained the Senators during four playoff series against the Maple Leafs between 2000 and 2004.
The Maple Leafs also announced that John Gruden and Brad Werenka will join the staff as assistant coaches. Assistant coaches Mike Van Ryn and Derek Lalonde will not return. Senators owner Michael Andlauer said in a statement that while he wished Alfredsson were not joining a rival organization, the door would always be open for a return.
