technology company Alibaba stated on Friday that its Qwen artificial intelligence model will be integrated into vehicles from automakers including BYD and a local joint venture of Volkswagen. The integration aims to enhance in-car digital services amid competition in the electric vehicle market.

The system combines on-device processing with cloud-based computing to interpret commands, plan multi-step tasks, and connect to services like payments and navigation. It is designed to function with limited network connectivity and will run on Nvidia's automotive chip system.

integrating Qwen include BYD, Geely, Li Auto, Changan, Dongfeng, BAIC, Great Wall Motor, SAIC Volkswagen, and SAIC IM Motors. Earlier this year, FAW Group's Hongqi brand integrated Qwen into its in-car system, starting with the Hongqi HS6 plug-in hybrid model. The announcement occurred on the opening day of the Beijing Auto Show 2026.

at the Show A local version of Audi in China stated that its electric SUV, the E7X, will begin presales on May 8 and incorporate AI features from ByteDance's Doubao and iFlyTek. It was not immediately clear if these AI features would be available in cars exported outside China.

Cadillac, the American luxury vehicle division of General Motors, displayed a new model with voice-assistant capabilities connected to ByteDance's Doubao AI.

automakers are emphasizing software features as electric vehicle market growth has slowed. The push for in-car services seeks to differentiate products and attract buyers in this environment.
