Allstate Ranks District of Columbia Second-Riskiest U.S. City for Drivers

Allstate released its 2026 America’s Best Drivers Report on July 8, 2026, ranking the District of Columbia as the second-riskiest city in the U.S. for drivers, washingtontimes.com reported. Baltimore placed third.

The bottom six cities remained the same as in the 2025 report: Boston, the District, Baltimore, Worcester and Springfield in Massachusetts, and Glendale, California. Allstate calculated average years between collisions and relative collision likelihood compared with the national average using property damage claims data from the 200 most populous U.S. cities.

Drivers in the District experience an average of 4.3 percent above the national average. Baltimore drivers average 4.1 percent higher than average. Alexandria, Virginia, ranked 12th with an average of 6.21 years between collisions and 75 percent higher likelihood.

Allstate agent Rudy Alston told WRC-TV that many incidents may involve commuters from Maryland and Virginia who are less familiar with District traffic laws, along with increased pedestrian, rideshare, and delivery traffic.
