Alphabet to Join Dow Jones Industrial Average, Replacing Verizon

Alphabet will replace Verizon in the Dow Jones Industrial Average ahead of Monday's trading, S&P Global said Tuesday. The California-based company's A shares, which trade under the ticker GOOGL, will join Nvidia, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft in the blue-chip index. The move increases the Dow's exposure to artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure and advertising, S&P Global said.

Verizon had represented about one-half of a percentage point in the price-weighted index because of its low share price. Alphabet shares rose about 1% after the bell Tuesday. The stock closed its worst day in more than a year on Monday and is up more than 10% in 2026.

It is on track for its fourth straight winning year. Alphabet has raised $141 billion in debt and equity since October. Honeywell International will remain in the Dow under the new name Honeywell Technologies after completing its spin-off of Honeywell Aerospace.

The spun-off aerospace company will not be included in the index.
