Amateur golfers Russell and Koivun paired in U.S. Open third round

Miles Russell and Jackson Koivun were paired together for the third round of the U.S. Open on Saturday at Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, N.Y. Russell, 17, hit a 407-yard drive on the 18th hole. ” Koivun, 21, said he tries not to think about outside expectations.

Koivun is set to turn professional after leading Auburn to two national titles in three seasons. He also won the Southeastern Conference individual title each year and held the top amateur ranking in the world. Russell ranks first in the American Junior Golf Association and seventh among world amateurs.

He earned his U.S. Open spot through a 36-hole qualifier.
