Amazon Expands Less-Than-Truckload Freight Service to All U.S. Businesses and All Sizes
Amazon Supply Chain Services now offers LTL freight service nationwide. Shipments from one to six pallets or 150 to 15,000 pounds can move to any U.S. destination.
dig-in.comU.S. The service allows companies to ship freight by pallet and share trailer space rather than reserve an entire truck. Amazon Supply Chain Services, the unit that houses the LTL offering, began operations last month.
Businesses of all sizes can now move shipments that range from one to six pallets, or 150 to 15,000 pounds. The company said the expansion follows strong customer feedback and rising demand. " Amazon has built a logistics empire that includes a fleet of Amazon-branded cargo planes, tens of thousands of delivery vans, and a freight service with 80,000 trailers and 24,000 containers.
Last month Amazon unveiled an end-to-end supply chain service that combines several of its logistics and freight offerings. In premarket trading, FedEx Freight shares fell 2 percent, Old Dominion declined 6 percent, Saia sank 7 percent and ArcBest dropped nearly 8 percent. Old Dominion Freight Line stock tumbled more than 6 percent on the announcement day.
Saia and XPO Logistics shares each slid 5 percent on the announcement day.
