Amazon Sellers Report Rising Fees, Shift Sales to Other Platforms

Independent third-party sellers on Amazon report that fees now consume more than half of each dollar in revenue, prompting many to sell on additional platforms. Eugene Khayman of Million Dollar Sellers, a group representing about 700 independent sellers, said fees rose from roughly 35 cents per dollar in 2011 to more than 50 cents today.

A 3.5 percent surcharge introduced April 17, 2026, was cited as one recent addition.

Khayman stated that some sellers now pay Amazon 60 to 70 cents on every dollar. A survey of 185 Million Dollar Sellers members found 45 percent had already moved sales to Shopify and direct-to-consumer channels, while 40 percent had begun selling on TikTok.

Daniel Crackower, who sells beauty products under the Eva Naturals brand, said Amazon’s share of his revenue after fees and advertising rose from 55 percent in 2021 to 68 percent recently. com.

An Amazon spokesperson said more than 60 percent of sales in its store come from independent sellers and that the company holds regular roundtables to gather feedback. The spokesperson added that most sellers choose Amazon for the value it provides.

Jon Jewett, another seller who joined Amazon in 2020, wrote that fees have become a “huge burden” and that starting two years later would have created significant barriers to entry. Khayman said the Save Our Sellers campaign is asking Amazon to consider rolling back some newer fees.
