An American Airlines regional jet made an emergency landing and evacuated on the tarmac on Friday after smoke was reported in the cabin moments before landing. The incident occurred on Friday, May 15, aboard American Eagle flight 5318, which was operated by PSA Airlines.

The flight was en route from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to Kansas City when the smoke appeared, according to the FAA.

“Bluestreak 5318, declaring an emergency. We’re landing,” the PSA pilot said when the plane was two miles from touching down, according to Broadcastify air traffic control audio. Other aircraft circled the airport as the CRJ-900 regional jet landed safely.

All 76 passengers evacuated onto the taxiway. Passengers climbed out onto the wing, images later shared by one traveler on the flight. Congressman Tracey Mann was on board the flight. Mann represents much of western Kansas.

Mann posted photos and video of passengers climbing out onto the wing. ” Cnn reported that the FAA will investigate the incident. ” The episode marked a rare in-flight emergency involving a member of Congress on a routine domestic route.

Mann’s presence drew immediate attention once the aircraft was on the ground in Kansas City. No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew during the evacuation. The CRJ-900 remained on the taxiway as emergency crews responded.
