American League defeats National League 6-1 in MLB Futures Game
Tampa Bay Rays catcher Nathan Flewelling hit a two-run home run and was named MVP as the American League beat the National League 6-1 on Sunday at Citizens Bank Park. San Diego Padres shortstop Leo De Vries opened the scoring with a single, two stolen bases and a run.

The American League defeated the National League 6-1 in the MLB Futures Game on Sunday at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. San Diego Padres shortstop Leo De Vries led off the first inning with a single to left field, stole second base and third base, and scored on a groundout to give the American League an early lead.
De Vries, ranked as the No. 2 prospect in baseball by ESPN's Kiley McDaniel, struck out in his second at-bat and was removed after the fourth inning.
performance De Vries signed with the Padres for $4.2 million in 2024 after being named the top international amateur player of his class. 286 with 11 home runs and 31 stolen bases in 75 Double-A games this season. The Padres acquired De Vries in a 2025 trade that sent closer Mason Miller and left-hander JP Sears to the Athletics.
De Vries said he felt no pressure from the expectations tied to the deal.
Flewelling named MVP Tampa Bay Rays catcher Nathan Flewelling hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning and was named the game's MVP. 261 with 16 home runs in 73 High-A games this season. The National League tied the score in the first inning on a groundout by Milwaukee Brewers shortstop prospect Jesús Made before the American League scored five unanswered runs.
De Vries said after the game that playing in a major league stadium was special.
