An Amtrak work train car caught fire inside one of the Hudson River Tunnels serving New York Penn Station early Friday, prompting widespread service disruptions for commuters traveling between New Jersey, Long Island, and New York City. m. Nearly 100 personnel were sent to the location. Five civilians were evaluated by EMS at the site.
Amtrak suspended service and stated it did not expect to lift the suspension until at least noon. New Jersey Transit and the Long Island Rail Road announced delays and cancellations. Cross-honoring and diversion programs were put in place while the situation developed.
