More than three-quarters of NHS hospital sites in England lack electric vehicle chargers, according to analysis by online car retailer Cinch reported by GB News. The study examined 2,901 NHS hospital sites and found that only 670 provide EV charging. This leaves 77 percent of sites without any charging facilities.

Across the entire NHS estate in England, there are under 5,000 EV chargers installed. The North East and Yorkshire region has the highest number, with 1,098 chargers across its sites. However, nearly seven out of 10 hospital sites in that region still operate without any EV chargers.

In the South West region, more than 80 percent of hospital sites have no EV chargers. GB News reported that chargers are often concentrated in a small number of locations rather than distributed widely. This uneven spread highlights disparities in infrastructure development.

West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust leads with 129 EV chargers installed. Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has 120, and Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has 101. In contrast, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have no EV charging provision at all.

The analysis comes as the UK plans to phase out petrol and diesel car sales by 2030 under the Zero Emission Vehicle mandate. The mandate requires at least 33 percent of new car sales to be electric by the end of 2026.
