Andre Iguodala Says LeBron James' Potential Warriors Move Would Reflect Both Players' Influence

Andre Iguodala stated that LeBron James' interest in the Golden State Warriors is a testament to Stephen Curry. ESPN reported the comments Friday after the National Basketball Players Association's executive leadership transition news conference. Iguodala, the 2015 NBA Finals MVP, said James' potential move would highlight Curry's standing.

"As I've been saying since 2013, Steph Curry, no one understands how great he is," Iguodala told ESPN. He described a recent text exchange in which a friend noted that Curry drawing another top player of his generation would underscore his influence. Iguodala is being succeeded as NBPA executive director by former Warriors chief legal officer David Kelly.

Iguodala compared Curry's long-term effect on the sport to that of Yao Ming. He said Curry has drawn new players to the NBA and that his impact will remain visible 30 to 40 years from now. The Warriors finished the most recent season 37-45 and missed the playoffs beyond the play-in tournament.

Curry averaged 26.6 points, 4.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game while earning an All-Star selection. Iguodala also praised James ahead of his record 24th season. He said James deserves the attention surrounding his free agency and that the interest demonstrates the league's global appeal.
