Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was photographed on horseback at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk this week. The 66-year-old rode for approximately one hour while dressed in a blue shirt, GB News reported. The horses were sent from Windsor by the King and are available to him only for a limited period.
A source close to the situation said he was "bored rigid" and that the rides offered relief from inactivity. The same source noted he rode regularly at Windsor to spend time outdoors. Royal aides had previously imposed a riding ban over concerns that photographs of him on horseback would be a "bad look" while he remains under police investigation.
He was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office in February and released under investigation. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied any wrongdoing. He left Royal Lodge in February after removal by the King.
He had lived at the residence for more than 20 years and now resides at Marsh Farm. Last month he made his first public appearance since February at an equestrian competition featuring the Duchess of Edinburgh. He was stripped of his royal titles last year.
British detectives are preparing to travel to the United States to meet with relatives of Virginia Giuffre as part of the investigation. Giuffre received a multimillion-pound payment from him in a 2022 out-of-court settlement in which he did not accept liability. She took her own life last year at the age of 41.
