Anduril and HD Hyundai Start Production on First Autonomous Surface Vessel
Defense technology firm Anduril and South Korea's HD Hyundai have begun constructing their first autonomous surface vessel after completing a critical design review. The vessel is slated to enter the water in October 2026 for testing off the U.S. coast. The partnership includes U.S. shipbuilder Edison Chouest Offshore for production at domestic yards.

Anduril has been conducting daily at-sea testing to gather insights for moving the vessel from production to operation.
The company is collecting open-water operation data that will transfer to the first production hull upon delivery.
Shipyards, alongside its collaboration with HD Hyundai. Anduril’s General Manager and Vice President of Surface Dominance Cory Emmons spoke with reporters at the Sea-Air-Space Exposition on Monday. The vessel being built is set to be in the water in October 2026, Emmons said.

The companies are expecting their first autonomous surface vessel to hit the waters this October. Speaking with reporters at the Sea-Air-Space Exposition on Monday, Emmons did not give a specific number of the ship’s production rate. The first ship in their new class enters production as part of the expanded partnership. Emmons declined to comment on the vessel’s price tag.
