Announced DNI Nominee Lacks Security Clearance

President Trump announced Bill Pulte earlier this week as his choice to serve as Acting Director of National Intelligence. The position is the highest in the U.S. intelligence community. Three sources familiar with the matter told CNN that Pulte has not been vetted and does not currently hold a security clearance required for access to highly classified information.

Security clearances are standard for senior intelligence community roles. The sources did not provide a timeline for when the vetting process would begin or conclude.
