Anthropic signed a 20-year lease with TeraWulf for a data center at the former Century Aluminum smelter site in Hawesville, Kentucky. Insider reported that the lease is expected to generate about $19 billion of contracted revenue over the initial term. The Hawesville data center will have enough power capacity to support about 400 megawatts of AI computing equipment.
TeraWulf said the campus is expected to initially provide power for AI computing during the second half of 2027 before reaching its full 401-megawatt capacity by early 2028. TeraWulf acquired the Hawesville site earlier in 2026. The company is developing the location into a data center after purchasing the former industrial property.
"The Anthropic lease validates our strategy and establishes a long-duration revenue stream with one of the world's leading AI companies," TeraWulf CEO Paul Prager said in a statement. " TeraWulf shares rose more than 10 percent in early trading on the announcement and finished the day up 12.3 percent, according to Reuters and AP News.
