Apple Adds Apple Intelligence Video Descriptions, 4K Support to HomeKit Secure Video, Still Lacks Matter Camera Support
At WWDC on June 8, 2026, Apple announced iOS 27 updates that bring Apple Intelligence features to HomeKit Secure Video cameras and the Home app.
The VergeApple announced that with iOS 27 its HomeKit Secure Video service will use Apple Intelligence to analyze footage and generate descriptions summarizing what the camera saw. Cameras connected to the service will produce AI-powered video descriptions, and users will be able to search footage with natural language to find clips from across connected cameras, such as when a package was delivered.
The Home app will use Apple Intelligence to connect relevant clips together to give a picture of what is happening across the home.
It will also surface noteworthy clips on the search page to quickly show videos that might be important. Support for up to 4K video resolution is coming to compatible HomeKit Secure Video cameras. Prior to this update, the service only supported 1080p resolution.
An iCloud Plus plan is required for HomeKit Secure Video and will include the new AI features. Apple did not mention bringing Matter support for cameras to its smart home platform. The Home app update allows multiple alerts for the same device to be condensed into a single notification which then updates as more activity occurs.
The announcements were made on June 8, 2026.
