Apple introduced a feature that automatically updates eligible weak or compromised passwords with one tap inside its Passwords app. The change was presented during the company's Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday as part of broader software updates that also included new tools for Siri, the camera app, and parental controls.

The Passwords app already alerts users when a saved password is weak, reused, or may have been exposed in a data breach. The new option adds a blue button on the Security page that lets users change a compromised password in a single step, according to the company.

"Now, you can automatically update eligible accounts to strong passwords with just a tap," Beth Dakin, a senior manager on the engineering team for Apple's browser app, Safari, said during the event. The feature uses Apple Intelligence along with Safari to navigate sites, sign in, and complete the password change.

Background on password tools Apple is not the first company to offer automated password changes. Google said in 2021 that its Chrome browser could help users change compromised passwords with one tap on supported sites. At its I/O conference in 2025, Google previewed a similar feature that can automatically update weak or compromised passwords with user consent.

The password update was among the less prominent announcements at Monday's event, which also covered more visible AI additions such as an improved Siri and enhanced photo editing. " The tool is built into Safari and the Passwords app, which come pre-loaded on most Apple devices.
